Food Bloggers Holiday Gift Guide

You’ll be seeing a LOT of Food Bloggers do a Holiday Gift Guide.  I love reading them – seeing what’s out there that I sadly don’t have yet.  I also love seeing things I already own pop up on the guides, because that means I’m doing something right! (It’s rare, but I do get things right from time to time.)

Instead of listing the things I think every good foodie needs, I thought I’d do a round up of things that I have a hankering for.  You know – the things that you really don’t NEED, but things that would make you feel kind of fuzzy inside.  Isn’t that what the holidays are about?

Breville Pie Maker – This beauty is on sale at Williams Sonoma for $79.  It’s another kitchen gadget that just seems so necessary.  I mean, how often have you been sitting there at night, and you think – I could really go for some pie.  But I only have about 8 minutes to devote to it, and I really want 4 of them?? This happens to me All. The. Time.  In fact, this machine has me itching for a new kind of pie.  Macaroni Pie.  For some reason, I look at it and think it would be fantastic to fill a pie shell full of chicken and macaroni, close the lid, and 8 minutes later be feasting on starch in a pocket.  Good stuff.

image Breville Gourmet Single Serve Coffee Maker with Iced Beverage Function – What a splurge.  Another brilliant product from Breville that I don’t have.  I am fascinated by the Keurig Single Serve K-Cups – I think it’s genius.  Simply insert the flavor of coffee, or tea, or cocoa that you want, push the button, and voila – perfect results every time, no waste, no fuss.  Plus, I am a sucker for little packages like those K-Cups.  I chose this Keurig Coffee maker over their others for one main reason – It’s Iced Beverage option.  Iced Tea or Iced Coffee anyone? Sweet.  On sale now at Amazon for $207.  Not a steal, but hey, if you’re throwing away $5 a day on a latte at Starbucks, this machine will pay for itself in less than 2 months.

Taylor Digital Measuring Cup & Scale – Less than $30, and beyond cool.  Not only is it a measuring cup, it’s a scale.  As if I needed another measuring cup. Or scale.  But yes, I think I do.  It’s love.

Ad Hoc at Home, by Thomas Keller – $30.  I’ve been wanting this book for over a year now.  Full of great recipes, advice, techniques…I love cookbooks.

La Cucina, The Regional Cooking of Italy – $30.  When I first saw this book at Barnes & Noble, I nearly forked out the cash for it.  But they wanted full price, and I don’t do that.  It is quite possibly the Italian equivilant of Julia Child’s Mastering the Art of French Cooking, though – and I must get my hands on it.image

Kamenstein Magnetic Spice Rack – i am a fool for anything stainless and magnetic.  I’m sure I could find a place for this.  No, I can’t say where, considering I would have to keep that Pie Maker somewhere, but I could figure it all out – couldn’t you? Look how shiny it is!

So – What’s on YOUR Really Don’t Need It But Man It Sure Would Feel Good Wish List?  I’m always looking to live vicariously!  And stay tuned for the girly things I want as well…no wish list is complete without scarves and felted hats and knee high leather boots, is it?

I’ve had my eye on the pie maker too! I really don’t have room for another kitchen gadget, but hey, I still want it! I made a list for ideas under $20 and I’m thinking of one over $200! Great post.

I love the idea of that pie maker, but I hadn’t thought of making savory pies with it until just now. Imagine – four pot pies at a time, ready to freeze for heat-and-eat later? OMG. Seriously. I could die.

I’ve been stalking Crate and Barrel and Sephora for the past couple of days. Nine West is always a favorite. And of course, my Amazon wishlists are growing at an alarmingly fast rate (partially because I keep entering weekly on their Wish & Win sweeps). C&B has this set of dishes that I adore. Actually, several sets of dishes. That I don’t need. And there’s a silicone roll-up pie mat on the KAF store that I also “need.”

…okay. Stopping now.

LOVE your holiday gift guide – that pie maker is genius & could be kinda evil at the same time. I like your thinking on the starch on starch, carb on carb ;) I will copy, keep & covet this list. You got great taste girl! XO

Oh yes, the Ad Hoc book is on my list, as is a SodaStream sparkling water beverage dispenser. Fun! A huge supply of chocolate and other baking ingredients. Another 6 pounds of bacon from a gourmet smokehouse! And wine… Especially sparkling wine, even now that I have a job this Christmas, the first time in several years, I’m still not treating myself to any gifties. Here’s to hoping Santa comes through this year!

Macaroni Pies are the best pies in the world -we have them in Scotland, however they don’t have a pastry lid. It looks like this http://www.cookipedia.co.uk/wiki/index.php/Macaroni_pie_(Scottish) and is the best comfort food ever. I miss them all, and when I go back to Scotland I stock up LOADS.
My husband would love that pie maker – he’d never stop using it I think!
