Day One of 2011, I had a wedding cake due. The bride and her mother were some of the most enthusiastic clients I have ever had, and were just so willing to experiment! The bride, Emily, wanted a memorable party – bright colors, not too traditional. Her colors for her wedding were eggplant and lime…with limes as part of the decorating theme of the centerpieces.
Lime and eggplant.
But it was gorgeous! She also wanted some sparkle…silver. And she wanted the guests to remember her cake. For flavors, she chose vanilla bean with green and purple confetti, covered in vanilla bean buttercream, as well as devils food filled with mint Oreo Mousse. But she wanted the LOOK to be memorable too, of course! So we went with a 4 tier stacked cake, and wrapped each layer in ribbon. The bottom layer was quite a bit larger than the others, and featured her custom designed monogram – two interlocking C’s that formed the infinity symbol. I made the monogram out of fondant, and applied it to a center panel, making it a focal point on the cake. From there, we went a little out of the box with a heavy gauge silver vine cascade. It was abstract and looping, and was tucked full of incredible callas and orchids. It also had a few fondant lime slices mixed in! For the wow factor, though it is hard to see in photos, the entire cake was airbrushed in pearl dust, which made a beautiful luster. So elegant!
Here are a few incredible photos, taken by Laura Matney, owner of Laura’s Focus, out of Blacksburg, Virginia. I am so thrilled each time I get to work a venue with Laura, as she takes stunning photos! Check it out!
Laura and I have a few more weddings we are working on together this summer, so hopefully you’ll get to see more of her work here soon!
PS – Flowers were by Karen, of Best Wishes, also located in Blacksburg, Virginia. I love her work!
