Super Special Chocolate Milk
A great guest post today – a Little Dranky Drank for the Kiddo’s …from Carrie of Fields of Cake. Welcome back, Carrie! We all LOVE your creations!
On occasion, for dessert, my husband and I will indulge in a decadent adult mixed beverage. Usually it will be in my pretty silver shaker and be creamy, sweet and super bad for you but super delicious. On these occasions….my boys get jealous. WHY do we get a frosty, sweet, creamy treat and they have to sit and suffer?! “It’s NOT FAIR!!” They whine.
Well ya know what? I remember that feeling. I recall watching my mom and dad sit and enjoy a white Russian or a cold Irish Cream every now and then and it always made me feel so left out that I wasn’t even allowed a sip! So a year or so ago, I decided to improve upon history and start making my boys “Super Special” chocolate milk….(I have also been known to make “Super Special” Caramel milk with homemade caramel sauce). It is a really yummy, decadent treat for the boys while we enjoy our “adult” beverage.
You can make it with whatever chocolate syrup you have in the fridge and it is great but I DO prefer to use homemade chocolate sauce when I can because….it is AWESOME! So I will give you the recipe for the chocolate milk and then I will give you the recipe for the chocolate sauce.
You’re welcome 😉
Super Special Chocolate Milk
A hand full of ice
1 cup whole milk
¼ cup heavy cream
1 TBSP. vanilla extract
¼ to 1/3 cup chocolate syrup *recipe to follow
Put everything into a drink shaker and shake vigorously for 30 seconds. Pour into a fancy glass and enjoy!
(you can also omit the ice and just whiz it all up in a blender. It is really important to have that agitation to build up the froth)
CHOCOLATE SYRUP
½ cup strong coffee
½ cup water
¾ cup granulated sugar
¼ cup brown sugar
2/3 cup dark unsweetened cocoa (I use Valrhona)
Pinch salt
1 TBSP. vanilla extract
In heavy bottomed saucepan, over medium heat, whisk coffee, water and sugars until all sugar is dissolved. Turn heat to medium low and Whisk in cocoa and salt and continue whisking until slightly thickened (about 3-5 minutes). Remove from heat and whisk in vanilla.
Allow to cool at room temperature and store covered in refrigerator.
So that is the amazing “DRANK” for my boys. It will satisfy their craving for a special drink and ensure they aren’t left out and it is EASY!
And the chocolate sauce, I feel pretty confident saying once you have tried this…you won’t want to buy it anymore. It is SO easy and SO delicious!
Be good my sweet readers! But not too good. That’s boring 😉
