When you think peanut butter, do you automatically think dessert (after sandwich, that is?)?
I kind of do. It’s rich, it’s sweet. It goes great in brownies or ice cream.
But peanut butter can really be for ANY meal. Sure, you can simply spread it on a piece of bread, add a little jelly, and have a quick bite for lunch, but there is so much more potential there.
For example – Breakfast.
I went on a hunt for some peanut butter laden breakfast treats, and here are just a few of my favorite finds. (Including, of course, my Peanut Butter & Banana Popovers – YUM!)
- Peanut Butter & Banana French Toast
- Peanut Butter Stuffed Apple French Toast
- Peanut Butter, Jam, & Banana Pancakes
- Peanut Butter & Banana Popovers
- Peanut Butter Waffles
- Peanut Butter & Jelly Skillet Monkey Bread
Now, these two aren’t officially BREAKFAST, but, who’s to judge? I could easily down either one first thing in the morning and not skip a beat.
So, Susan, what’s the deal with the Peanut Butter Post??
Easy question. In celebration of National Peanut Month this March, Southern Peanut Growers (SPG) is launching its third annual “PB my way” recipe contest. Peanut butter lovers are encouraged to dig deep into the jar—and recipe box—and share their favorite budget-friendly recipe for a shot at a $500 Visa® gift card. For every recipe received, SPG will donate a jar of peanut butter to hunger relief organization Feeding America.
According to the USDA, the average weekly food cost in December 2011 for a family of four on a “thrifty” to “low-cost” budget was about $9 per meal or $2.23 per serving. With peanut butter ringing up at less than 20 cents per serving, people would be nuts not to dig into this pantry staple.
Budget-friendly recipes can now be submitted at www.PeanutButterLovers.com until midnight EST, March 31, 2012. In addition to bragging rights, a one-year supply (one case) of peanut butter will be awarded to the top three who enter the most delicious recipes, and the grand prize winner will receive a $500 Visa® gift card. The winning recipes will be photographed and featured on Southern Peanut Growers’ Facebook, website and e-newsletter. For inspiration, consumers can visit SPG on Facebook throughout March for budget-friendly PB recipes from guest bloggers.
“Like” Peanut Butter to Help Fight Hunger
New this year, SPG is asking consumers to help spread the peanut butter love by “liking” Southern Peanut Growers on Facebook. When SPG reaches 1,000 likes, it will donate an additional 1,000 jars of peanut butter to Feeding America. That’s enough protein-packed goodness to make 16,000 peanut butter sandwiches! So please, take just a minute and click LIKE over on the SPG Fan Page. Think of the good it will do!
In case the good deed isn’t encouragement enough, I am offering you a $50 Visa Gift Card for your effort. Simply LIKE SPG, then return here and leave me a comment, letting me know you did. One of you will will the gift card, AND help get that extra 1000 jars of peanut butter to the hungry. Win-Win.
Hope you win!!
Now, go! Like ‘em! Then come on back & let me know! Out of kindness, could you share this post with your friends on Twitter & Facebook? I’d really like to help them reach their goal!
Contest open until March 1, 2012, 11:59pm EST. One winner will be chosen at random and winner will be emailed. US Addresses ONLY, please. Winning entry will be verified before email is sent. Visa is courtesy of SPG.
Disclaimer: I was also supplied a Visa Gift Card from SPG, but all thoughts and opinions are 100% my own.

Unfortunately, the terms prohibit submission of the recipe I have posted. That’s ok. I’m happy to know this is working for Hunger. So glad I saw your post.
