Gardening…Organically

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Whitney Farms for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

We need some more rain.

Up until a few days ago, we’ve had very little…grass was dried up, the garden was kind of sad, things needed to be watered. No one likes to water, especially when it’s so hot. Yuck. When did summer get so hot and muggy? Still – if you plant a garden, it’s imperative to keep up with it, like it or not. That means weeding, keeping the bunnies away (let’s not talk about strategy here), and fertilizing. Typically, we don’t use a lot of fertilizer, just a little bit mixed in when tilling it up to start planting. This year, we tried Whitney Farms Organic Fertilizer.

I’ll be honest, I can’t say I am 100% buying in to the whole Organic Movement. Do I WANT my food – my child’s food – to be safer, healthier? Yes, of course. But I believe the commercial organics aren’t all they lead us to believe. Farming is big business, and farmers have to have ways to protect and nourish their crops. One fertilizer or pesticide or another will be used. It’s personally up to us, as consumers, to decide what we want and what we don’t. I won’t push anything down your throat. You’re a grown up, I’m a grown up, we can make up our own minds. photo(10)

But, like I said, I did try this Fertilizer, which creates anorganic soil by usingorganic plant food , and from what I can tell, it really does seem to work! To me, that’s all I really needed to know. If something can be organic, and deliver on what it claims to do, then I am IN. We used it in our raised beds, and as you can see, we have a nice broccoli bed, a few good looking watermelons, and of course, tomatoes will be taking over my life in a few days. I also used it in my herb planters, and I now have the nicest looking rosemary I’ve ever grown. Considering I didn’t even PLANT rosemary in that pot this year (I forgot to), that’s really pretty darned impressive!
