iCoffee Review and Giveaway

The world has become obsessed with coffee. Have you noticed? Starbucks is on virtually every street corner in the cities, and complete with drive thrus in small town America. Of course, there’s also the plethora of other chain coffee shops, small cafes, food trucks, and doughnut shops.

All coffee, all the time.

And then? There’s the At Home Coffee Frenzy.

Where once upon a time, you had to make an entire pot of coffee every morning (3/4 of which likely went to waste, because who has time or the guts for an entire pot??) you now have the Single Serve Brewers.

Ah, yes. Single Serve.

Hundreds of different K-Cups are out there, available everywhere, from shopping malls to big box stores, to local groceries…you can get any flavor, any time. And why not? Everyone in your house can have the cup of Joe they prefer, be it decaf or regular, hazelnut or vanilla. Or maybe you prefer apple cider, or hot cocoa? You have so many options these days!

But what machine do you invest in?

Well, I was recently asked to give the new iCoffee Opus a go, and me, being one who loves to get my hands on new things, gladly accepted.

Having previously owned a Keurig brand brewer, I was familiar with the process of how the single serve coffee brewers work. Heck, I even owned a Keurig Vue at one point, so I knew my way around the ins and outs of these machines. So what makes the iCoffee Opus different?

A few things, actually.

First things first, the Opus gets hot. Hotter than my Keurig. Hotter is better when it comes to brewing, because hotter does a better job. The Opus I reviewed is a full 5-7 degrees hotter than my Keurig, and surprisingly, the coffees I tried (even the hot cocoa) brewed more smoothly, had a richer flavor, and overall just SEEMED better.

I’ll take that.

Secondly, the iCoffee Opus Single Serve features SpinBrew™ technology, which uses a patent-pending needle to spin, steam and stir the coffee inside the single-serve k-type cup, creating a French Press effect that virtually eliminates bitter or acidic aftertaste. This is a neat feature, and the flavor difference really is noticeable.

Here’s some more good news: the iCoffee Single Serve is compatible with all k-type cups, including K-Cup®, RealCups®, OneCups™, and private label cups. You can also make your own using a reusable K-type cup. Different size servings are also a great feature – you just dial to your preferred serving size. For stronger taste, brew a small size cup. For a more mellow taste, brew a larger size cup.Simple!
