My First Birthday Cake…Ever.
Probably ought to be my last, too. That is, unless I can find a Wilton Class and in a hurry. Today was my grandmothers birthday, and I really wanted to make her a cake. I don’t do well with cakes, that’s why I stick to cupcakes. In the past, it never failed that I would get bits of cake into the icing, and that always irritated me, hence…no cakes, only cupcakes. But I wanted her to have a CAKE for her birthday. So I baked an Orange Dreamsicle cake in a 4 inch springform and a 8 inch springform. I made a mistake by putting them on the same baking pan, because, DUH, the 4 inch got done faster, and when I removed it from the oven, I knocked the larger pan and it sunk. UUUGhhhh. But it ended up tasting okay, though it wan’t light and fluffy. Second issue was the icing. Great flavor, but I didn’t beat the cream cheese until it was smooth, and therefore it ended up lumpy. But I iced it anyway, and added a few fondant flowers that I had colored with my food pens, and a couple of chocolate butterflies that I made following the “Hello Cupcake” instructions. I didn’t make the bodies, but it looked okay…and the little antennae didn’t set, so, those were out, too.
But, she loved it, and that’s what matters I guess.
Now, I am off to find the nearest Wilton Class. Wish me luck…I suck at this.
