The most gorgeous sandwich…ever.

Many of you readers know that I have this thing for Nutella. I put it in cheesecakes. Pies. Dumplings. Cookies, Cakes, Brownies. There have been very few things I have not wanted to cover in the creamy, chocolaty, hazelnutty goodness.

That being said, I am still a relatively new Nutella convert….we’re only a year into our love affair. You may gasp at that, but honestly, I think I may be the only person in our entire town who has eaten it at all. I can prove that, too. you see, I marked on a container of it at Food Lion a couple of months ago…right before we left for a trip to South Carolina for a friends birthday. That was May 2nd. The container of Nutella is still there. You can’t tell me that every single Nutella buyer has moved that container aside and went for the one in behind. So therefore…I am Giles County’s only Nutella buyer. I think I should get a discount, don’t you?

Okay, so…everytime I drag out the Nutella, I always think to myself…I can’t imagine ever eating this on a sandwich. Too rich. Too dessertlike. Who eats chocolate on a sandwich?

Um, that would now be ME.

You see, I was browsing my Blogs and came across Bell’Alimento’s post of a drippy, gooey Strawberry and Nutella Panino. And heck, if SHE can eat it, so can I. (By the way, check out her site…it’s utter fabulousness.) Anyway… I just started the Penny Pinching Pantry Raid, and wouldn’t you know it – I had NO strawberries, and BUYING some is out of the question at this juncture. But raspberries? Well, my new raspberry bushes just so happened to have more than enough red and black raspberries for me to turn into a sandwich.

Just look at all that deliciousness! I buttered a couple of slices of my homemade Milk Bread, slathered on some Nutella, pressed my berries into it, and grilled it just as I would make a grilled cheese.

Oh the sweetness. Oh, the berries. Oh, the chocolate, the saltiness from the butter. It was divine. I immediately jumped ahead 5 years into the future, when Seven is in school and brings home his buddies. I make them this sandwich, and they worship not only Me, but Seven as well for having the coolest mother in the tri-state area. They devote their Little League win to me. One of them later goes on to name a Park after me. One thanks me in his Oscar acceptance speech. And one of them will tell their own mother, and she’ll go buy that container of Nutella that I wrote on, still sitting on the shelf at Food Lion 5 years later.

It’s that good, people. Try it. Thank me later.

Here’s a quick rundown of our Day One Consumption:

  • Money spent – 83 cents. Jon and his dumbassedness bought a coffee, thinking it was allowed. Not allowed, Jon. Badddd.

  • Breakfast – only Seven ate breakfast. He had a piece of cheese, a banana, some berries, and some turkey. Don’t judge me. It’s well rounded.

  • Lunch – I had that Nutella Sandwich. Seven had 2 hot dog wieners, ketchup, and an applesauce. I packed Jon a couple of turkey roll ups with spinach and shredded cheese, some apple slices, a fruit cup, a Gatorade and a Reese Cup.
  • Dinner – We all had leftover cheeseburgers from Monday Night and some grilled zucchini from the garden. Seven also had a fruit cup with his burger.

27 days to go…$99.17 left to spend.
