Going to the Beach? Take this…
Return to Sullivan’s Island.
It’s the new novel by Dortotea Benton Frank. So you didn’t read the first novel she wrote. No biggie. Neither did I. No need to – this one stands alone.
Is this the best book you’ll ever read? Ever? Ummm, no. But it is a page turner, which is something you want in the summer, no? I read it over the course of a day and a half, whenever I could grab a spare moment – and it’s a quickie, even though it weighs in at nearly 400 pages.
Return to Sullivan’s Island tells the story of a recent college grad who is chosen by her aunt and mother to housesit their family home on a fairly remote South Carolinian island. Did I mention the house is kind of, well, haunted? Umm, it is. But don’t let that sway you – the book isn’t all BOO and weirdo. It’s a subtle ghosty.
Did I mention this gal has a supposed fear of commitment? Daddy issues? Inner turmoil about having to give up her dream of jumping into the workplace or writing her first novel? All happening here. Plus that older man – the sexy, suave, smooth as silk Mr. December? Yep, he’s in there too. Throw in a bunch of drinking and money and a family nuttier than …nuttier than…well, really nutty, and you’ve got yourself a book that keeps you turning pages.
Pick up your copy here…and, if you read the first book – leave me a comment here and tell me all about it. Good? Bad? Worth the effort?
Day Four Rundown: No Money Spent.
Breakfast: Jon had Eggo waffles, again. Sev had cheese, grapes & Blueberries. He wasn’t hungry so we hit some yard sales.
Lunch: We all went to a 4th of July Cookout and ate. We took Cookie Dough Cupcakes – no money spent. I swiped a peach and a Diet Pepsi to bring home. Give me a break – it was at my Mom’s.
Dinner: Sev ate a couple of hot dog weiners, cheese and grapes. He pretty much ate non-stop all day, grazing from one Potluck to the next. Yep – we hit two of them. Jon & I didn’t eat at the second potluck, but neither of us ate dinner. Jon did fry up some zucchini and squash at around 1030pm…that was from our garden.
