What is Love?
My son Seven is three. He’s a joy, most of the time, and he’s just like the little girl from the nursery rhyme:
The was a little girl, who had a little curl, right in the middle of her forehead.
And when she was good, she was very very good, but when she was bad, she was horrid.
Maybe horrid is a strong word. And he doesn’t have a curl.
But I’ll give his this – when he’s good – he really is good. He’ll curl up beside me and just say over and over – I love you Mommy. And ask if he can pet me. Then he’ll rub my arm, or kiss my cheek. He’ll make me forget the fact that 5 minutes prior he was screaming at me and stealing bananas or hanging on the refrigerator door, swinging back and forth.
I love you, Mommy.
So this morning, I asked him…What is Love, Seven?
He thought for a second.
You, Mommy, he said.
I pried a little more. You love me even when you mad at me. I love you even when you take me to school.
