Lowe’s Living Room Springtime Makeover

I’m almost embarrassed to show you these Befores. You see, we’ve been living with this rug, this couch, these curtains, well, everything in here – for over 5 years. I’ve always liked it. Yes, it was somewhat dark, what with the dark walls and the dark rug, but it showed of our traveling lifestyle well, or so I thought.

Now after looking at the photos, I think it just looks empty.

Why did I never notice it before?

Thanks to Lowe’s Creative Ideas, I was challenged this month to spruce up a room in my house. I would have liked to have tackled our master bedroom, but since that room was the only refuge in our house thanks to the kitchen reno, I went with the living room, even though I secretly thought it didn’t need it.

Gracious.

As all of us know, money doesn’t go far when it comes to home improvement. So, I tried to be smart. Maybe a brighter rug, some curtains? Maybe some lamps?

Lowe’s. Did it. I was thrilled to find such a nice rug at a great price. It is kind of an ivory background (same color as my ever-shedding dog), but has some beautiful teals, rusts, black (which blends well with my kitchen), and greens. It also has some brown, which went well with my already coffee colored walls. Perfect, in my opinion.

While I was shopping, I happened upon some gorgeous multi-striped curtains at Lowe’s as well. The colors weren’t exactly the same, but I took a chance, because they were too goo a deal to pass up. Turns out, once they were hung (using my existing sheers in between), they matched wonderfully!

I thought my existing lamps would work fine, and they kind of did, but everything else in the room looked so fresh and airy. So, I went back to Lowe’s and found some artsy 50’s inspired teal lamp bases and crisp white drum shades that really make a difference in the room. I love them! I was lucky enough to find a few throw pillows that matched out at my local Walmart. I think they work really well!

Now, you can’t see it here, but we have a floor vent that was just – well – standard and ugly. So I replaced it with a great looking brushed stainless steel vent cover, also from Lowe’s. It was a great $12 spent and makes such a difference!

I absolutely love the way the room looks now…what do you think? Better?
