Penny Pinching & Yard Sales

This is probably going to be a boring post. Being DoughMessTic doesn’t always mean making something in the kitchen. It also means cleaning out closets. Under beds. Cabinets. Making your husband go through his clothes and decide what to put in a yard sale. Yep…Yard Sale.

It seems I have become a little bit addicted to them in the last couple of weeks. I have found great deals on clothes for Seven – Gap, Old Navy, Tommy Hilfiger, Polo – high end names for pennies. I now have clothes to take him all through the remainder of the summer, the fall, and even into winter…plus a few things for next summer, too. All for under $80. Included in that were a ton of Little People toys – the airport, the construction site, a Diego truck…so many great things that were practically new!

But…that being said, now I need to get rid of a few of his older toys and clothes. I don’t want him to be THAT kid with toys coming out of his ears. It may be okay for YOUR kids, but not mine. I want him to appreciate his toys…and I also want a house I can keep fairly orderly. Chaos isn’t my thing. Toys are chaos.

Anyway. Being DoughMessTic. We’ve spent the past couple of days sorting through the madness and taking a good hard look at what we need versus what we HAVE. We have way too much. So, Yard Sale. Maybe we’ll make enough to fund our October trip to Newport, Rhode Island. Or maybe we’ll make enough to fund a trip to the next town over for a hot dog. Either way, it’s better to have the money than have a closet full of unused things.

Sorry for no food pictures, no recipe, no fancy reviews. You’re just getting the basics here today!

Day Five Rundown: No Money Spent.

Breakfast: Seven had cheese, grapes, and ham.

Lunch: We all had Pigs-in-a-Blanket, made form leftover hotdog weiners and Pillsbury Crescent Rolls. We also had chips (again, leftover from Moms Cookout) and that peach I snagged from the potluck. It was some kind of good. I sprinkled some Vanilla Sugar on it – Yum.

Dinner: Jon made us spaghetti, and made sauce from a can of tomato paste, a can of diced tomatoes, deer burger and herbs form the garden. He also sauteed some zucchini from the garden. I made us 12 Pillsbury Cookies, the Take & Bake kind…so Jon has them for his leftover spaghetti lunch on Monday. Note: There was enough leftover sauce (that I would have normally thrown out) to freeze for another time, so it’s there waiting for us! Yay us!

23 Days to Go, $82.77 left to spend.
