Read Kiddo Read

To say I love to read is, well, an understatement. I love just about any book – but chick lit really gets me going. I am also intrigued by Twilight – I MUST read those soon! In fact, I hope to get to read through the entire series while we are on vacation next month in Italy…hint hint, family!!

What Is Chick Literature?

Chick lit is a genre of literature that has been popularized by authors such as Sophie Kinsella and Candace Bushnell. It typically features the story of a woman living in modern society, struggling with life’s difficulties but always managing to come out on top. Chick lit gets its name from the term “chicken soup for the soul,” which implies that these stories are as warm and comforting as a bowl of chicken noodle soup on a rainy day. These genres are better known as love storybooks as they contain scenes of romance, relationships, and a big pile of emotion. If you are a fan of romantic/chick literature, why not consider making your own Love Story Book

How To Make Your Own Love Story Book.

Find a book with a fantastic cover. Make sure it’s something you’ll want to look at every day for the next four weeks!  Select a quote from one of your favorite novels that will serve as inspiration throughout your journey. If you’re struggling, here are some popular ones: “And I’d choose you; in a hundred lifetimes, in a hundred worlds, in any version of reality, I would find you, and I would choose you.” –The Chaos Of Stars by Kiersten White “But love is an adventure.”–The Fault In Our Stars by John Green. Set up a schedule for your book. Try to keep it simple – 30 minutes a day sounds good! Create an outline of the main events that will take place in this story.

Nowadays, however, reading time has become limited to cookbooks, blogs, the occasional trash magazine and mostly, Children’s Books. I love reading to Seven – whether it be his favorite “touch & feel” books like “I See A Monster” by Daniel Mahoney or his Bedtime Book The Going-To-Bed Book by Sandra Boynton. We also have a rubber book that we read in the bath about Daisy Duck…we’ve read it so many times that he knows when to turn the page! To me, reading time is a sweet time. He cuddles, we snuggle, and you can share knowledge with him. I also love that Daddy gets in on the reading action with him, too…

Two nights ago, I catered a function at a nearby Elementary school. While they were having a board meeting, and I was clearing the buffet table, I overheard the speaker mentioning that many children come to Kindergarten unable to identify a single letter or number. Unable to Identify. That really got to me.

I was fortunate enough growing up that I had a babysitter who would read, and reread, and reread books to me over and over, as many times as I wanted. So when I got to Kindergarten, I could already read. I remember sitting in a circle around the teacher, and everyday she would introduce the class to a new letter. A Letter. This bored me. But now I see that not everyone has the same reading experiences as I did.

I am determined that Seven will be reading by the time he starts Kindergarten, and I want to develop a love of reading in him. When I learned about James Patterson’s new program Read Kiddo Read from the folks over at Mother Talk, I knew that this project was a good one. Read Kiddo Read has pre-selected titles that will help promote reading to many different age groups, from babies on up through teens. Books that will interest your kids. Take a look, parents and grandparents. What better gift than a book? Maybe, just maybe, one of these days your child or grandchild will thank you for it. In writing.
