Product Review: ViSalus ViCrunch
One cool thing about being a blogger?
Learning about things before anyone else.
Take for example, this brand new (like, right at this minute it is available for purchase) ViSalus ViCrunch. My friend over at ViSalus decided to give me a sneak peek at the new Protein Super Cereal as well as the Fusions, and even PAID me to try it out.
And now I am here to give you the rundown on what I thought. Or think. You know what I mean.
Breakfast really isn’t my thing. Yes, I know that’s bad, I do. I WANT to get up and fix breakfast, but my bed in so snuggly and perfect in the mornings. Plus, with the ease of working via the iPhone, mornings tend to linger longer and longer…and then breakfast just doesn’t happen.
I could start eating THIS for breakfast though.
ViSalus ViCrunch Protein Super Cereal
I figure if I am actually going to get out of bed, I should at least eat the right food. And, um, I don’t have to COOK cereal, so, we are batting a thousand here already with the new ViSalus cereal. It’s packed full of protein (22 grams if eaten with skim milk), fiber (20% of your daily needs!) and only 260 calories. Add to that it is all natural (no funny colors, no artificial sweeteners, no preservatives) and has zero trans fat…which I know is good. I get enough of that elsewhere, I’m sure.
But all of that means nothing if it doesn’t TASTE good.
It tastes good! It’s kind of creamy, for lack of a better word. As you can see, it looks similar to corn flakes with almonds thrown in. But it’s not corn flakes. It’s made of oat bran and whey – which has higher amounts of protein and yet fewer carbs. Plus, though it tastes sweet ( I like that in a cereal), it only has 3 grams of sugar per serving.
I’d like to stop right there for a second and tell you something I have a hard time swallowing. Can this be true? I read that in the 1900s, people consumed on average 5 pounds of sugar a year. By the 1970s that total was up to 26 pounds. And now – 140 pounds per year. 140?? Can that be correct? I have to assume the majority of that sugar intake is from sodas…and as I work for a sugar company developing recipes, I know how much sugar I go through in our house…it’s no where NEAR 140 pounds.
But that’s what I read, anyway. Someone Google it and find out. I really want to know.
Now let’s talk about the other goody I got to try out.
ViSalus ViCrunch Fusions
Now, I may or may not always have the gumption to get out of bed and actually pour the milk on my cereal, but I can sure as heck snack throughout the day. I have no problem with that whatsoever. In steps the Chocolate Macadamia Granola Fusion.
I’ll be straight up – it’s not the prettiest concoction, but hey, it’s chocolate granola. It’s not meant to be pretty – it’s meant to taste good. And it does!
After a lot of sampling, I decided it tastes like No-Bake Cookies that have been over dried and missing peanut butter.
Can’t go wrong with that.
However, the glutton in me really wants to turn this healthy snack into something more decadent – it just aches to be made into a cookie. Oooh, or as a topping for a chocolate buttercream covered cupcake. That would be divine.
Stop it, Susan.
It’s healthy! And it really does taste great on it’s own. You could, of course, add a bit of it on your morning bowl of cereal for some added flavor and crunch, and I don’t think you could go wrong there. Plus, just like its cereal counterpart, it’s low in calories (only 60 per serving), with no artificial sweeteners, colors, flavors or preservatives. So you can feel good about it!
So there you have it. Now you, too, can work from the comfort of your bed in the mornings, then pour a bowl of cereal for a late breakfast or sleep in a little later and snack on some Fusions and still be eating healthy.
I give you permission.
Relax.
