Fashion?? Pies??

That’s right. Not a typo. For this month’s You Want PIES With That? Challenge, Holly of PheMOMenon decided that the Creative Tarts should make a pie based on Fashion. Personally, I have been wearing my husbands flannel Redskins Pajama bottoms and a clashing VT Hokie sweatshirt all day (oh, and now it’s bedtime, too – so good thing I am dressed for it.) So…. what I am trying to say is – fashion smashion. I have none. I used to be trendy, too. I did. I was quite a shopper. That was pre-Seven, pre-mortgage, pre-Homemaker. Fashion and my life rarely collide these days . But I do recognize it if I see it.

That being said, I recently watched the Sex & The City Movie. Don’t really waste your time, kids…it’s like 3 hours long and you can’t get that time back. But everyone knows those gals are all about fashion. So when I thought pie challenge, I thought S&TC. My original idea was to make four tarts, one based on each of the four tarts in the movie…but I ruled it out. Too time consuming, too – well, overkill, maybe. So I settled on one tart, because everyone knows that Sarah Jessica ruled the show anyway. And she’s petite – so perfect to have a tart based on her.

My tart was made out of one Big Apple – hello? – how fashionable is that? The crust is Dorie’s Good for Almost Anything Crust, layered with a thick coating of Chocolate Ganache (like a black fur coat), slices of apple, and then drenched in Dulce de Leche – like Carrie’s caramel highlights. For some bling I added pie crust cutouts and a handful of chocolate chips – threw it in the oven for about 20 minutes (the length of time the movie COULD have been and still made the same point) and then voila – done and done.
