I am just about to head out for a little Black Friday shopping. I kind of hate that it’s starting tonight. I mean, really…couldn’t they start the sales after everyone had a good night’s rest and breakfast? That’s the way we USED to do it. Eat. Shop. Eat. Shop. Now it’s a mad dash for […]
I have a love affair with everything vanilla. 3 years ago, I’d never seen a bean. Barely used the extract. And (gasp), truth be told I probably bought Imitation Vanilla if I needed some for a recipe. Dear God, I nearly choked typing that. Now I bet there’s not a single day that goes by […]
I’ve never actually eaten a Mrs. Fields Chocolate Chip Cookie. Ever. But here is what I assumed: kinda hard, generic. Nothing to write home about. As a National Brand, famous, and sought after cookie it needs to appeal to the masses, not just foodies. Masses want something they can rely on – just enough chocolate […]
I adore cheesecake. Thick, creamy, sweet. I have to say, my favorite cheesecake is plain, nothing baked in, just the cream cheesy goodness. Sure, I’ll top it with a variety of different things, like chocolate ganache, whipped cream, fruits, lemon curd. But when it gets right down to it, just keep the cheesecake portion […]
This post. This post is kind of tough for me to write. A little over 3 years ago, I started this blog. On a whim. It took me about 30 seconds to come up with the name Doughmesstic, and then about 4 days to find the group Tuesdays With Dorie. Tuesdays With Dorie changed my […]
I hope you are an iPhone user. Are you? If you are, I imagine you use Instagram. It’s taken us iPhoners by storm, and it’s an App I LOVE following. It’s eye candy. It’s simple. It makes all of us artists with our cameraphone. How fun is that? Now there is Stickygram. Stickygram has come […]
I have a LOT of appliances. It seems as a food blogger, I’ve amassed pretty much the equivalent of a Bed Bath & Beyond in my kitchen. You’d be surprised at how many gadgets you are asked to review, how many toasters, how many coffee pots. I say no a LOT, too. No, I don’t […]
Do you like cornbread? Do people outside of the south eat cornbread? I guess I just assume everyone knows what cornbread is. I’m not all that particular when it comes to cornbread, but it’s a strange bird. It’s a little gritty, and oftentimes mealy. You know, it needs a big glass of milk to wash […]
So, you saw those popcorn treats I made, right? Well, making them is a sticky situation. Don’t touch your iPhone while in the middle of making them, if you get my drift. In fact, don’t use ANY phone in the middle of making them… You’ll be sorry, not that I know from first hand experience […]
Sometimes you just need a quick, easy, indulgent treat. Not a dessert exactly. Nothing involving an oven or a mixer or a blender. Rice Krispy Treats were a great example, back when we were kids. But let’s face it…we aren’t kids anymore. We’re women (and men, Brer Matt, and the one other man who reads […]
Oh, sweet, sweet readers. I’ve been working hard for you. I do hope you will appreciate it. Below you will find just about ALL of my favorite things (I spend a LOT of time in the kitchen, as I imagine you do, too, so expect foodie things). Most of these things I own, many of […]
Did you think I had stopped making cakes? I haven’t. Well, I haven’t made too many in the past few weeks, as I’ve been on a self inflicted cake hiatus. I don’t want to get burnt out! However, I wanted to share with you a few I have done in the past couple of months. […]
