Kentucky Derby Round Up…Everything You Need for the Perfect Derby Party!
Everything you need for the perfect Kentucky Derby Party this weekend, save for the fascinator or giant hat. You’re on your own for that.
Most of us won’t be making the trek to the Derby, but that doesn’t mean we can’t sit back and party like the fine folks stomping around in the centerfield, cheering on our favorite pony. There’s just something austere and grandiose about the idea of the derby, is there not?
You just want to be there, drinking your julep, pinky held high, the sun glowing down on your amazing hat. The man holding your arm is dressed in outlandish patterns and khaki, a hat of his own for maybe the first time in his existence.
Good stuff.
At home? Do the same thing. Dress up. Invite over a gaggle of friends, mix a batch of juleps, some cookies, some tiny tea sandwiches. Have a plate full of Hot Browns, and finish off the night with Derby Pie.
You know you want to.
I hope you wear your hat.
Do it.
Mint Julep Recipes
Gotta have a mint julep. But why can’t it be a little different? Try the original, or try one of these inspired recipes…like Mint Julep Ice Cream, Cupcakes, or Mint Julep Sweet Tea.
Hot Browns
Carb overload. That’s the Kentucky Hot Brown. Bread, cheesy gravy, turkey, tomatoes and bacon. I’m dying over here.
Derby Pie Recipes
Oh, the Derby Pie. Kind of like a chocolate chip cookie pie, but with pecans and, well, it’s a pie. That means you can eat a big piece of it. And you will. Here is the pie version, as well as the bar version. Equally delish!
Cookies
Cute, eh? If you’ve got the gumption, here are some ever-so-cute cookie ideas. And if you don’t want to make them yourself (like Bakerella’s hats or Bridget’s Ponies), beg the girls on Etsy to make them for you. Just do it quick.
Everyone have a wonderful week! Thanks for letting me share the Derby Love!
