Holiday Gifts: Barnes & Noble (and a Giveaway!)
I love a bookstore. Seriously, just adore it. The smell of the paper, the ink. The people perusing the aisles, stopping to read from the center of a novel, or finding themselves enthralled by the picture of a cake on page 42 of a cookbook.
It’s comforting.
This weekend, I dropped in to Barnes & Noble, after a long day of working on building our vacation cabin. (I’ll tell you all about that later on – but it’s been crazy!) The store was packed full of holiday shoppers, and folks relaxing while drinking their coffees in the café. It smelled so warm and inviting!
I wound my way back to may favorite section – the cookbooks – to see if I could find anything that I just HAD to have.
I found this, to start:
Dorie Greenspan. The woman I hold responsible for teaching me how to cook and bake. I started my blog in 2008, and immediately became a part of Tuesdays With Dorie, a group who baked their way through Dorie’s Baking: From My Home to Yours. With every week I learned a new technique, or tip, or trick…until finally, I am here today, creating recipes of my own. I’ve been lucky enough to communicate with Dorie a few times over the years, but I wonder deep down if she knows how much I admire and thank her.
So…this new book of hers? Baking Chez Moi? It’s on my list. Just gotta have it.
But the book beside it too? Thug Kitchen? That looks just like a book I would enjoy. I might need that, too. Cookbooks. They get me every.time. Every time.
See this? I happened upon my OWN cookbook while shopping! Yep, The S’mores Cookbook was on the shelves at MY Barnes & Noble. I almost felt like a grown up, seeing it there.
After the cookbooks, I wandered over to the other side of the store, but kept passing the coolest things. Things I had no idea B&N carried. So many little fun ideas, stocking stuffers, and downright COOL gifts. Look at this! A Message In A Bottle Kit. I have to get this for Seven, because I want it for myself, but it’s nice to buy gifts for others tan for myself. I think. Maybe. I just want it.
But speaking of Seven – he’s HUGE into Minecraft. Is your kid? I have no idea how to play it, what it does or what it’s for, but kids today are obsessed with this graphically challenged game for some reason. Barnes & Noble has a giant selection of different Minecraft toys and gifts. A TON. So if you have a 5-15 year old to buy for, I’d start in this section. I doubt you go wrong with any of the choices.
Still looking for that hard to buy for friend or relative? You can never go wrong with a Moleskin. They’re simple, great quality, and people love them. Chefs, artists, doodlers, poets, recipe developers, me…we all love them. So many sizes and colors to choose from – I’d take any and all of them.
I don’t know about you, but I’m now pretty sure that I could find the right gift for most anyone on my list from the things available at B&N. A book of any kind is always a great gift, but they have so much more to offer. Follow #BNDiscovery for more about all they have to offer!

I love a thriller, so it would have to be the John Grisham book at the top. But I’d love to get some of the YA literature for my nieces and nephews.

The best gift is an enticing journal. One that matches the personality of the receiver. I love the hand written notes I have from my Mother, the poems my husband wrote me, and just a free write (brain dump) of the day. All because of the personal hand written messages. Can’t beat that

The Smores Cookbook is my pick for those that love smores and would love a different way of making them for parties in the Winter especially! We live in Upstate NY where hot chocolate is a favorite! Smores dessert would be a dessert and drink all in one! Thank you.
