For the Boys…VTech Switch & Go Dinos

Being a blogger has been so much more rewarding for me than I ever imagined. Four years ago, I was the new mom of a tiny baby boy, I didn’t cook, I didn’t clean, and if you want to know the truth, I didn’t know which way was up most days. Since starting the blog I’ve been on dozens of trips, I’ve thrown parties for some great clients, I’ve been afforded the opportunity to share parts of my life and family, and I’ve made so many online (and now off-line) friends. One definite perk? Toy reviews. I don’t often get the chance to review toys, as my site is mostly food related, but as a mom, getting to expose my son to toys that aren’t even out yet is really pretty awesome. He doesn’t know it, because he doesn’t understand marketing. He just knows that he gets a cool toy, and I get to take credit for him having it.
Take these VTech Switch & Go Dinos.
When I was first told about the opportunity, I was pretty excited, but wasn’t sure I really wanted to review a toy. But being a mom I thought – VTech. Great company (they have so many wonderful learning tools for kiddos), and I love for Seven to have toys that are interactive. He’s so creative and inquisitive, I want him to get a lot out of the things he does play with. He’s also a computer NUT – he would spend 10 hours a day on the computer playing any variety of games and puzzles if I would let him – and these VTech toys mentioned an interactive LCD screen.
How could I deprive him of the chance to check out these cool new toys?
A few days after agreeing to review them, a package arrived with two VTech Switch & Go Dinos – Silver, The T-Rex Dino and Horns, The Triceratops Dino. Seven was elated to come home from Pre-School to find them on the kitchen counter, and he immediately got to work on them. I didn’t try to encourage him to play with the Dinos any particular way – in fact, I didn’t even tell him that they would swtich from a dinosaur to a car. I wanted to see if he would figure it out on his own, and within seconds, he did!
The toys are really pretty amazing. I have no idea how they work, but when in the form of the dinosaur, the LCD screen offers him the ability to change the dinos eyes (Look Mom – here are his scaaaarrreeeyyy eyes!), as well as having buttons to push that spout out lots of different dinosaur info. Love that! On the other hand, once the dinosaur is transformed into a car, the LCD screen changes from eyes to a driver – again, he gets to choose the driver, and of course, the dinosaur sounds have changed to engine rumblings. Very creative!
I would certainly buy more of these Switch & Go Dinos for Seven, as well as other little boys. I’d have to guess the best age range would be from 3-8. Maybe a little older, depending on the boy. I don’t have an 8 year old boy yet, so it’s a little hard for me to gauge! Which one would you buy for the little man in your life? Got a favorite?
