Change is in the Air

Well, not just in the air, but in my kitchen.

You’re talking to a girl who considers a kitchen remodel to be three new hand towels, so bear that in mind when you read what I am about to tell you.

We are about to redo our entire kitchen.

Appliances. Countertops. Moving existing cabinets.

I can’t leave the graphing paper alone. I’ve designed, I’ve redesigned.  I’ve harassed Lowe’s Home Improvement.  I’ve made the kitchen girl there cry.  I’ve learned more about staggering the heights and depths of cabinets than you’ll ever care to know.

And I’ve fret over countertops.

So many choices! Quartz. Granite. Solid Surface.  I currently have Formica.  While it’s not bad looking, it’s not going to work in this newer Food Blogger Dream Kitchen.  I need good looking AND durable.  I need something I can roll fondant out on. Something I can knead dough on.  Something that will look fab in all of my blog posts, right?

Right.

I’ve pretty much narrowed my choices down to Caesarstone.

Have you heard of it?  It’s incredible.  I think they might have elves or genies employed there.  Take a look at what they can do!

Personally, I am having a heck of a time even choosing a color.  Our cabinetry is a honey/light maple, kind of craftsman style.  The flooring is the same color.  Our backsplash is also light – it’s stone in neutral shades, with a few greenish colored glass tiles mixed in.  Our appliances? They’ll be stainless.  So – we are thinking going a little darker, to contrast and make a real statement.

Here are my favorites…what do YOU think?

imageimage

This one is called Maharaja.  It’s from the new Caesarstone Collection, called Supremo.  The one beside it is also a huge contender from the same Supremo Collection – it’s Queen of Sheba.  I love the depth of it!  I’ve included a little bit of info about the collection towards the end of this post – since it’s just been released in the past couple of weeks, there is a lot of new info to share!

imageimage

This one, on the left,  is called Belgian Moon. It’s pretty dark, but so pretty!  And on the right is one of my favorites, called Late Autumn.  I’m in love with all the variations in it.  It’s probably my favorite at this point, but don’t let that sway you!

Now, if I were a brave soul, or lived in an awesome NYC or Chicago loft (that was always a dream of mine) – this new pattern would be MINE.  White Crocodile from the Motivo Collection.  They’ve only JUST released it, and you’re probably seeing it HERE FIRST!

imageimage

Caesarstone countertops are blended at a ratio of up to 93% natural quartz aggregates with pigments and polymer resins and are manufactured through a highly automated, yet strictly monitored process.  Don’t ask me how they make the crocodile…I’m pretty sure it’s magic.

I also know they are the ONLY ones who do it.

Here’s a little more info on the new Supremo Collection I told you about, direct from their press release in mid-January…

Mirroring nature’s endless diversity, each of the exceptionally designed
Caesarstone Supremo premium surfaces has its very own spectacular flow of
color and pattern. This patented new technology is unique only to Caesarstone.
With its natural look and feel, no two Supremo surfaces are alike. With a range
of eight colors with names inspired by aristocracy and fantasy worlds each color
carries meaning and beauty. From Swan Lake, a shimmering cream pattern
which is both classic and refined; to Queen of Sheba a black surface with
rich texture and subtle veining, Supremo’s palette of colors is sure to please.
Translucent Supremo surfaces can be backlit creating a soft luxurious ambiance.

This new addition to the Caesarstone family of colors and collections gives
endless options complementing any design. From Caesarstone Classico, a
collection chocked full of fan favorites from Blizzard to Concrete; to Caesarstone
Motivo, the brands line of edgy patterns derived from a patented polishing
process to create lace and crocodile; and Caesarstone Concetto, a high end line
of semi-precious stone surfaces that are truly works of art; Supremo is in good
company.

Now – HELP me decide!  Which ones do you like?  I really just can’t choose.

Handtowels are next.  That is, if I can decide.

With your cabinets I would probably choose the Late Autumn, but I really like the Maharaja; it’s just different.

I like the Maharaja, but that is just me. The Autumn will make for an interesting color scheme. Take some photos of the kitchen, fire up photoshop and layer the different patterns on your counters and see what you think from there. But, you have probably started building a scale model of the kitchen with samples of each countertop and working miniatures of the appliances…

The late autumn is sooo nice. I am thinking about redoing my kitchen too and will definitely look into this company. They have very nice looking counter tops!

I love the Belgian moon… Sounds like it would contrast nicely with the cabinets and the darker tone won’t compete with the backsplash. Mmmm can’t wait to see pictures!

When I did my kitchen remodel last year I took a long look at Caesarstone, but there were no nearby distributors and it was a little out of my price range. Totally gorgeous, I wish you lots of luck in your remodeling endeavor! I would choose the Lake Autumn.

Late Autumn was my favorite before I read the comments, I swear :) I’m not a fan of the Caesarstone. . . especially if any grout is involved (which I can’t tell for sure whether its grout or just made to look like it)

I think the Late Autumn would probably work best with your cabinet/floor color. I do have to say that I would be more of a Maharaja girl. :)

Late autumn, so many colors you can really do a lot of changes around it without replacing the counters again. Although that white crocodile is pretty cool! I am so jealous, I would love to remodel my kitchen, but all I can do for now is replace my stove & microwave. We ordered them this morning & they are stainless also and both the oven & the microwave are convection. I am so waiting for Saturday when they’re delivered. :)

Sounds like you’re going for similar colors to what we have. My dream kitchen would have that Belgian Moon in it – love it!

Dude… go with Late Autumn. All the way. I mean, we live in the south. It’s kismet. But if you don’t agree, I’d go with Mahajara. I think the blackish ones won’t really go with honey colored cabinets but hey, that’s just me. Plus, I’d probably take SEVERAL more repeat courses of yours on the Late Autumn or Mahajara counter tops. :D

Oh my GOODness they’re all beautiful but I think I like the Ocean Palace… Gorg! I think I might possibly have the ugliest counter tops on the planet and am in desperate need of replacing them. Thanks for introducing us to this great product!

I really like the Late Autumn. It’s lovely. I like that they are non-porous, so they’ll be easy to clean. Are they heat resistant? Can you throw a pot directly from the oven on top without damaging them?

Belgian Moon is SICK!!! (Of course, I mean that in the best way possible.) We have Sasparilla cabinets (DARK brown, nearly black), but if I had it to do over, I’d probably go with the superdark counters and keep the cabinets lighter. Good luck… and can’t wait to see picts!

Holly February 2, 2012 at 11:42 am

Um, hellooooo gorgeousness! Tough choice! They are all gorgeous. If the choices are between the darker ones only then I’d have to go with the Late Autumn… that said though, I see no reason you can’t do the white crocodile in your country kitchen. It would be a bit eclectic, but what’s wrong with that? It would be a bit edgy. Perfect for you! Also, let me just point out the having an all bright and gorgeous kitchen can only help in your efforts for a great food photog kitchen. That white would really help with making it a light and airy space to max out your natural light. You can always bounce a little dark in, but getting more light to pop your pics is harder. :)

As you know, I LOVE kitchen remodels!!!!!

I think Ceasarstone is a graet choice. No worries about staining or maintenance. And you can put a hot cookie sheet or cake pan and not worry about it. (Although they don’t recommend it. I’ve never seen a problem. )

I have black granite in my house and it is gorgeous when it is clean, but it is VERY hard to keep clean. I vote for one of the more varied brown colors over the black. Whenever I cook, and especially when I bake (and I don’t bake as much as you do) it takes quite a bit of effort to get the black looking squeaky clean again. The brown will also look great with your cabinetry.

I am so excited for you to be able to remodel your kitchen!

I LOOOOVE that white crocodile, but like you said, would be great in a loft or a very chi chi space. For your kitchen, I can’t decide between Queen of Sheba or Late Autumn. Both would be great based on what you said about the cabinet/backsplash/floor choices. Now, you must post something when it’s all done so we can see the finished project!

Jennifer February 2, 2012 at 7:26 pm

I think the late autumn would go great with the tile you and Jon did. Although, knowing you, whatever you choose will be perfect in your kitchen. Good Luck, Lucky Duck!
