National Apple Month…Round Up of All Things APPLE!

by doughmesstic on October 8, 2012

in Food Holidays, round up

Were you even aware that October is National Apple Month?  Well, it is.  Of course, it’s also Pasta Month. And Vegetarian Awareness Month. And Pretzel, Pasta, Pork, Dessert, and Seafood Month.  Not sure why everyone piled in there all together, considering there are oh, 11 other months, but, who am I to judge?  I’m just here to share recipes with you and go on about my business.

Or something.

So, let’s get down to business.

Here at Doughmesstic, I’ve made my fair share of things with apples, and honestly, I love ALL of them.  My favorite? Has to be the Candy Apple Pie, the one that got me to Martha Stewart.  Feel free to read all about that great debaucle.  While the pie didn’t win her prize, it certainly is devoured anytime I make it, so, that has to mean something, right?

Since it’s October, and canned pumpkin is making it’s way back on the grocery store shelves, these Caramel Apple and Pumpkin Turnovers are a quick and delicious treat.  Perfect for this weekend, don’t you think? (Can you wait that long?)

On a similar token, Apple Pie Popovers are one of my go-to popover recipes.  Yes, I have a ton of popover recipes, but I always happen to have an apple on hand when popovers are requested, so, this recipe gets used and abused A LOT. It’s simple, too, so give it a shot, I think you’ll really enjoy it.

Love Danish?  You must.  What’s not to love?  I adore making my own dough for danish – it’s so organic and old-world feeling.  I don’t do it near enough (I’d weigh a ton if I did), but when I do – I am always looking for creative things to fill it with. White Chocolate Cream Cheese, Tart Apples and Walnuts made it into this version, and trust me – it was some good stuff.

Obviously, you can’t have Apple Month without Caramel Apples. Mine? Dipped ‘em in chocolate. These were gorgeous AND delicious, so, win-win.  Quick, too.  You’ll appreciate that, I’m sure.

Speaking of Caramel Apples, I just wanted to share this photo of a recipe I HOPE I can soon share with you.  Turns out I may have a full-time Recipe Development job for a well-known company, and this photo captures one of the recipes they just purchased from me.  A Caramel Apple Cheesecake.  It is SO good.  I want to share it, so y’all keep your fingers crossed I get the gig and I will make sure it shows up here on the blog in the very near future!

All of your apple-inspired creations look amazing! Apples are one of my favorite fiber-rich fall foods and I have a major sweet tooth so I’m excited to see that you’ve made it possible for me to satisfy both cravings. :) And good luck on the job front! New opportunities are always exciting.
